The Roles And Responsibilities

Your duties in the nursery setting would include:

  • Looking after children’s day-to-day physical needs
  • Providing a range of fun and stimulating activities, from reading stories to messy play
  • Protecting and promoting the health and wellbeing of children
  • Ensuring that safeguarding procedures are followed within the nursery setting
  • Promoting positive relationships between children and staff in the Early Years setting
  • Supporting children’s learning and development through play
  • Supporting colleagues by encouraging their development towards key milestones
  • Monitoring children’s progress, keeping records, and reporting back to parents

Note that different types of Early Years Practitioners work with different age groups, and the needs of each age group can vary greatly.

Required Qualifications

Early Years Practitioners are required to hold at least a Level 3 childcare qualification or equivalent.
